GMH Mental Wellness

The story behind the foundation.

Why founder Greg Ellis started Getting My Help — and the goal, mission, and movement that grew from a single, hard truth: too many of us were suffering in silence.

From Greg Ellis

A few years ago, I received heartbreaking news.

A legendary NFL football player had taken his own life. Although I didn’t know him personally, I couldn’t help but feel deep sorrow for him and his family.

It was at that moment that I began to pay closer attention to mental health and the lasting negative effects it has on families worldwide. I also realised I had been surrounded by individuals with undiagnosed and misdiagnosed mental health disorders throughout my life — teammates, friends, family, and even myself.

Most of us, including me, suffered in silence and ignored the problem. It saddens me to think about all the hurt and loss of life that has resulted from undiagnosed or misdiagnosed mental wellness challenges.

“This realisation motivated me to take action. Inspired by this motivation, I created ‘Getting My Help,’ a mental wellness foundation dedicated to making a difference.”
